Directors
Christina Scherley – Director
Mrs. Scherley has recently been hired as the director of bands at Huron High School. She previously held the position of assistant director of bands for 11 years. Christina graduated cum laude from Bowling Green State University, after student teaching at Brian Local Schools in 2000. She currently holds a Bachelor of Music with a minor in English. Mrs. Scherley attended Troy High School, located near Dayton, Ohio.
Under her direction, the McCormick Bands have participated in the Ohio Music Education Association’s Large Group contest, District 2 Honor Band, and Solo & Ensemble contest. In addition, the McCormick Band is a regular participant with Music In The Parks.
Aside from her work with the Huron Bands, Mrs. Scherley enjoys spending time with her THREE children and her husband. During the summer months, she plays flute in the pit orchestra for the Huron Playhouse.
Christina maintains active membership in the Ohio Music Education Association and Music Educator’s National Conference.
Matt Safford Assistant Director
Before coming to Huron to be the Assistant Band director, Mr. Safford taught band for 10 years in the Eastwood Local School District. During his tenure at Eastwood, he directed numerous ensembles in OMEA contest for both the High School and also for the Middle School. He also served as Vocal Director for the high school musical for several years. Before Eastwood, Mr Safford taught band for 2 years in Lisbon, Ohio and elementary general music for 1 year in Wellsville, Ohio.
Mr. Safford is a 1999 graduate of Bowling Green State University and has been playing piano for the past 31 years. He has served as a church musician and accompanist for various ensembles throughout Northeastern Ohio. He enjoys spending his spare time with his wife Amy, son Zachary, daughter Madison, and his dog, Princess.
Shane Kreuter – Percussion Advisor
Shane Kreuter is a graduate from Perkins High School in 2006, where he was a member of the Pirate Percussion under the direction of Brad Bell. Shane attended The University of Toledo, then transferred to BGSU Firelands where he is in progress of a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.
Megan Kaufman – Tigerette Advisor
Megan Kaufman is a graduate of Margaretta High School where she was a four year member of the Bear Company Drill Team under the Direction of Ellen Denny Coffman. Upon graduation Megan attended Baldwin-Wallace College where she was a member of the Dance Team. She then transferred to The University of Akron where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Music while participating in the Akron Color Guard and choreographing for operas and other choral productions. Megan is still an active dancer appearing in shows at the Sandusky State Theatre, and other local venues.
